Betty Joanne (Bohman) Hirschauer, 86, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2017 at Arbor Springs in West Des Moines, IA from complications with Dementia.

Betty was born to Clarence Rudolph and Anna Linnea (Carlson) Bohman in Moline, IL on January 1, 1931. She graduated from Moline High School in May 1949 and attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA where she met her husband, Dick Hirschauer.

They were married on May 14, 1955 at First Lutheran Church in Moline, IL.

Dick and Betty resided in Des Moines and West Des Moines, IA where they raised two sons, Tom and David, along with their pet dogs.

Betty worked as a secretary at John Deere in Moline, IL, a secretary at the Iowa House of Representatives, and a volunteer at the Polk County Election Office.

Betty lived her life to serve Christ and was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Des Moines where she was on alter guild, participated in the Women's Church group, and ran a weekly luncheon for senior citizens called "Golden Friendship." Betty enjoyed meeting people and never met a stranger. She cared for those in need, loved dogs, enjoyed time with her grandchildren, and loved to travel with her husband, Dick in Europe. She was also an excellent Bridge player.

Betty is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick" Hirschauer of West Des Moines; sons, Tom (Sandy) Hirschauer of West Des Moines and David Hirschauer of Odessa, FL; six grandchildren, Alec, Chase (Ali), Weston, Jonathon, Elizabeth, and Peyton Hirschauer; nieces, Melly Tucker of Blackpool, MD, Sue (Pete) Mayer of Mission Viejo, CA, and Lori (Dick) Fahrenholz of Appleton, WI; and nephew Mark (Debbie) Bohman of Moline, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Don Bohman; and two sisters, Marie Bohman Wilson and Evelyn Bohman Halverson.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church, 3010 52nd Street, Des Moines, IA with a private family committal at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation and select Tribute.
