John Davidson Craver lived on Craver Road in Davidson County, North Carolina on a hill above the creek. He was the son of William "Billy" Craver (c1800-c1863) and his first wife, Mary "Polly" Whirlow (c1804-c1847). After Polly died, Billy remarried to Betsy Susannah Essick (1820-???). Altogether Billy fathered 26 children, many of whom died young. A marriage date of 01 Jan 1840 (or 1841) is given for Billy and Betsy, if true, Polly probably didn't die in 1847,

John was a farmer and a Civil War veteran (serving with the Confederacy).

John first married to Christina (went by Crissie) Hinkle (1824-1877), who married on 03 Apr 1848 at Davidson County, North Carolina. John and Crissie were the parents of seven known children, namely:

5. Henry Lindsay Craver (1859-1916)
6. Emanuel Mathias Craver (1861-1930)
7. Ransom Eli Craver (1864-1930)
