Mrs. Forrest Butler, 74, Fatally Injured in One-Car Accident -
Mrs. Grace M. Butler, 74, of Cushing, died Saturday night at the Howard County Memorial Hospital in St. Paul of injuries received earlier that evening in a one-car accident near Cushing.
Mrs. Butler received cuts and bruises about the head when she was thrown against the windshield. She was a passenger in the car driven by her husband, Forrest, when the car hit an embankment at a dead-end section of the road near the Wayne Cook farm, 2 1/2 miles east of Cushing.
A son, Merle, also was a passenger, He received a cut lip while Mr. Butler was not injured.
Mrs. Butler had suffered a stroke two years ago which affected her right side and she was unable to keep herself from the blow.
Christian Science services were held at the McIntyre-Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul Tuesday at 1:30, with William Nielsen of Grand Island as reader.
Burial services were held at the Columbus Cemetery at Columbus. (Funeral details followed)
Grace M. was born to William and Katherine Lewis in Grand Rapids, Michigan, April 27, 1886. She came with her parents at an early age to Columbus, Nebraska, and received her education in the Columbus schools. She taught school for several years in Platte County.
She was married to Forrest Butler in Columbus, August 19, 1908. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1958.
Ms. Butler is survived by her husband, Forrest Butler of Cushing; Merle Butler of Wolbach; two daughters, Mrs. Laura E. Aschwege, Palmer and Mrs. Shirley M. Hill, Omaha; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Mary.
