Harriet, 90, of Grand Rapids, MI and formerly of Eaton Rapids went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 16, 2017. Harriet was the daughter of Harry and Irma (Starring) Canfield.

She was a graduate of Eaton Rapids High School class of 1945 and attended nursing school. She worked for the Eaton Rapids Public School as a secretary and librarian for many years. Harriet also worked for the Eaton Rapids Public Library and served on the library board for 30 years.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church and the Wesleyan Church in Eaton Rapids teaching Sunday school and volunteering with child care.

Harriet loved to travel with her family and friends visiting places such as Ireland, Canada and Israel along with many places in the United States. She was also an avid reader and collector of dolls.

Harriet is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Samuel Higgins; daughter, Ann Higgins; son, S. Michael Higgins and sister, Martha Bristol.

Surviving are her sons, William (Marilyn) Higgins of Petoskey, MI, Tom (Mar) Higgins of Grand Rapids, MI; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; brother, Harry Canfield; daughter-in-law, Candie (John) Sorensen; Marie (Don) Witt and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life was held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids Chapel.

For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Special Olympics in memory of Harriet.
