Guy Arthur “Sam” Calaman, age 80, of Carlisle, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the PinnacleHealth West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg with his loving family by his side.

He was born May 30, 1937 in Carlisle to the late James P. and Mildred P. (Miller) Calaman.

Guy retired from the former Sprint Telephone Company after over 38 years of service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #1299 and Middlesex United Methodist Church. He was a farmer at heart and a carpenter, building homes in his free time. Guy was an avid hunter and enjoyed snowmobiling and visiting the family cabin in Clinton County. His family meant the most to him. He will be sadly missed by his dog, “Molly”, who followed him everywhere.

He is survived by: his wife of 56 years, Joan L. (Kautz) Calaman of Carlisle; a son, Samuel A. (wife Juanita) Calaman of Newville; two daughters, Julie A. (husband Donald) Kurtz of Carlisle and Kathy L. (husband Kevin) Martin of Stevens, PA; a brother, Freeman “Butch” (wife Loretta) Calaman of Carlisle; three sisters, Doris Kuhn of Mt. Holly Springs, Virginia “Maggie” (husband Paul) Basehore of Mechanicsburg and Della (husband Abram) Witmer of Carlisle; three grandchildren, Samantha Little, Ivory Martin and Matthew Martin; and two great-granddaughters, Brynn and Aurora. In addition to his parents, Guy was preceded in death by three sisters, Georgiana Baer, Claire Rodgers and Jean Keck and one brother, James Calaman.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Robert Bishard, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. Full military honors will be provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
