Dorothy was the daughter of J.C. Woodard and Lenora Richardson Woodard. She was educated in the Houston County School System and graduated from the Houston County Training School in Perry, Georgia. She also graduated from the International City Beauty School in Warner Robins, Georgia in 1991. She was retired from Houston County Public Works Department. She was a member of Houston Mt Zion Baptist Church in Bonaire, Georgia.

She was married to John Lee Owens on October 6, 1972, they had four sons. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Diane Woodard and Susie Mae Hammock.

Survivors:
4 Sons: Nicholas Owens, Kevin Owens(Jewnerio), Jermaine Owens and Elrico Owens(Sheneik).
4 Sisters: Gladys Jackson, Louise Davis(Larry), Vicky Woodard and Evette Hayes(Fernando).
4 Brothers: Roy Woodard(Wanda Sue), Bobby Charles Woodard(Laverne), Barrett Woodard(Beverly) and Dennis Woodard.
1 Brother-In-Law: Curtis Owens(Maggie).
1 Sister-In-Law: Grennie Mae Owens Kendrick.
A Devoted Best Friend/Niece: Evelyn Child.
3 Devoted Nieces: LaConya Woodard, Katrina Howell and DeShonna Woodard.
A Devoted Friend: Mackeba Dean.
11 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild.

Services were held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 3PM in the Sanctuary of Houston Mt Zion Baptist Church in Bonaire, Georgia with Rev. Keith Milton officiating.
