Danny, a life-long Charleston resident, was born on April 20, 1942, the son to the late Daniel L. Strait and Anna Buena Strait. He was a graduate of South Charleston High School, and West Virginia State College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Biology. He was the owner and sole proprietor of Charleston area business Strait's Dry Cleaners and Coin Laundries for 54 years.
An active member of the Charleston Church of God, he will be remembered for his un-denying Christian faith, selfless generosity and community involvement. He was active in the Charleston communities where his businesses served, engaging all with love and good will and became affectionately known as the 'Lolli-Pop Man' as he passed out Tootsie Roll suckers and messages of faith and encouragement with all of whom he crossed paths. He most recently took great pride and joy in leading, coordinating and delivering church sponsored weekend food programs for the local Mary C. Snow and Bridgeview Elementary schools.
Danny is survived by his life-long sweetheart and wife of 54 years, Linda J. Strait; daughters, Danielle S. Miller and Diana Lyn Halstead; son, in law Dwayne H. Miller; and four grandchildren, Davin, Noah and Elias Miller and Andrew Halstead. His grandchildren were the unquestioned love and lights of his life, and he will be greatly missed by all.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, August 17, at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, with Pastor Tom wise officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the mortuary.
