Beloved husband, father and grandfather. Theodor Benedetto Amato was born on August 3, 1947 in Palermo, Italy. He and his family came to California in 1954 and settled in Los Angeles then moved to the San Fernando Valley in 1961. After high school, Ted received his aircraft mechanic certification and started working with TWA Airlines in Los Angeles. In the summer of 1971 he returned to Sicily to visit family and fell in love and married his wife Rosalia (Lia). They both returned to California and started their family. His passion for fishing and boating lead him to leave TWA Airlines and move to the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard. He and his wife purchased a lot and built their dream home in Mandalay Bay. He worked for Air Resorts Airlines at Oxnard Airport for 4 years. In 1988 he went to work for the Department of Defense at Pt. Mugu as a civil servant then transferred to Pt. Hueneme Naval Base where he eventually retired due to his illness.

One of Ted’s hobbies was flying and he received his private pilot’s license in 1983. He owned his owned small aircraft and enjoyed many years flying out of Oxnard Airport. His true passion was boating and fishing and living in Mandalay Bay gave him countless hours enjoying what he loved!

In 2008, Ted was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was given 6 months to 1 year to live. He beat all odds and survived 9 years in which many of life’s special occasions were celebrated with his family, grandkids and friends. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Lia Amato, daughters Barbara Amato and Diana Kim, son in law Tai Kim and grandkids Leah, Arianna, Brooke, Mia, Ciara and Matteo. We will forever miss and love you Nonno.
