He grew up in Latuda attending schools of the Carbon County School District and graduated from Carbon High school where he played clarinet and was active in the band.

After graduating from high school he attended Brigham Young University and during his freshman year enlisted in the Army Reserve and was called to active duty on April 12, 1943. He served as a radio operator on a B-29 crew in the Army Air Corp and was part of the 20th Air Force, 509th, Composite Group based on the Island of Tinian. He is proud to be a World War II Veteran. Upon his return, he completed his freshman year at BYU. He then transferred to the University of Utah but repented after a year and returned to complete his accounting degree from BYU. He remained an avid BYU fan and instilled this love to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He met his future wife, Eleanor Binder, while working a summer job at the Pleasant Grove Canning Company. They were married January 5, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 64 years, before she passed away on July 6, 2014.His professional career took him to several places of employment beginning with Geneva Steel, and culminating with being elected as the City Auditor for Provo. He was reelected for three additional terms. He then served four more years as the City Treasurer for a combined total of 20 years.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including High Counselor, Bishop’s Counselor, and Bishop. He also served as an ordinance worker in the Provo LDS Temple for 25 years along with his wife. He was a member of the Provo Kiwanis Club for 42 years and severed as Secretary and President. He especially enjoyed being part of the yearly Kiwanis Club annual 4th of July Balloon Fest and Pancake Breakfast fundraiser. He was a life member of the Sons of The Utah Pioneers and was affiliated with the George Albert Smith Chapter.
