Floyd Finnis Curtis, 79, passed away Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at Tambree Meadows Assisted Living in Idaho Falls.
He was born Feb. 20, 1938, in Springfield, Idaho, to James Dorris Curtis and Lela Leona Burrell Curtis. He attended school in Thomas and graduated from Snake River High School.
Floyd met his wife, Florence Anne Roberts, during high school while she was working as a car hop for The Barrel. On July 31, 1956, she married Floyd in Blackfoot, Idaho. They had four children, Jeri Lynn (Brad) Carlson, Brenda LeNai (Roger) Pixler, Todd Douglas (Vernice) Curtis and Leona Dannell (Daryl) Wornek. He also raised his brother-in-law Lyle A. Williams as his own son following the passing of Lyle's mother.
He started farming early on with his father before working for Blackfoot Grimm Growers and later as a police officer for the Blackfoot Police Department. He also worked for American Potato and Spudnik. While working for Spudnik, he was transferred to Warden Washington to co-manage their service department. He worked for Aqua Drilling in Coeur d'Alene and later he started his own drilling company in Post Falls called Enterprise Drilling. He finished his career as and operating engineer at the Idaho National Laboratory.
While living in Blackfoot, he was a member of The Tri City Racing Association, where he raced his car #55. While living in Washington, he belonged to the Lions Club. He also served eight years in the National Guard.
Floyd enjoyed fishing, hunting, car racing, boating and water skiing. He loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events to watch them play.
He is survived by his four children; brother, James D. Curtis; sisters-in-law, Justine Lent, Beverly Williams and NeAnn Curtis; brother-in-law, Lyle Williams; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; his two brothers, Claude Curtis and Bill Curtis and his sister, Marjorie Webb; sisters-in-law, Frances Nelson, Brenda William and Nola Curtis; brothers-in-law, Ray and Kenneth Williams, Duane Webb and Val Nelson; and one great-grandchild, Jacob Mortensen.
