Mr. Joe Counsell, 85, a resident of Union City, died Thursday evening, January 17,2019, at Baptist Hospital in Union City.

Mr. Counsell was born June 23, 1933, in Obion County, to the late Blakemore and Sarah (Harpole) Counsell. He married Yvonne (Whitt) Counsell January 24, 2009. She survives.

He was a retired groundman and truck operator for Union City Energy Authority for 29 years. Through out his life he was an active Mason, Shriner, a member of the VFW, Union City Civitan Club, a member of First Baptist Church in Union City and attended Troy First Baptist Church in Troy. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Counsell of Union City; one son, Logan Counsell of Union City; one daughter, Kathy McKendree of Paducah; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Blumrick McKendree, Chad Counsell, April Counsell Nuno and Daniel McKendree; seven great grandchildren; three step-children, David Keefer of Charleston, Il., Darren Keefer of Union City and Vanessa Burton of Steele, Mo.; five step-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jacqueline Logan Counsell; a daughter-in-law, Paula Counsell; and a step-daughter, Cindy Brown.
