He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jean Talada Maxwell. Also surviving are his children, Lisa (Terry) Berger, Hope Maxwell and Holly Sweat (Ben Vanderpool) all of Rome; grandchildren, Rachael (Becca) Chilson of Towanda, Te'a Sweat (Steven) of West Virginia, Dalton Sweat, and Ryan Berger of Rome; brothers, Gary (Doris) Maxwell of Sugar Run, and Al (Robin) Maxwell of Athens.
Also surviving are several special grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
John married Jean on March 21,1970. He was a life member of the Vigilant Fire Company in Rome, a member of the Roman FM No. 418, and a member of the Bradford County Fire Police Association.
In John's early years, he worked for PennDOT, Jackson Mobile Homes, Walt Finch, Valley Instant Homes and, before he had to retire, he was employed by EL Jones and Sons Trucking. He also parked cars for the Rome Methodist Church once a month for their monthly dinners. His greatest time was spent with his grandchildren.
We would like to have a celebration of his life on Sept. 2 2017 at the Rome Fire Hall with a dinner to follow at 4 p.m.
Burial will be at a later date at the Rome Cemetery.
