Curtis was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps. He served during WWII, and spent four winters in Fairbanks, Alaska as a part of the Arctic Transport Command. He was a member of the greatest generation and was a self-made man. As a general contractor, he built over fifty houses and three churches during his career. Curtis was a member of North Cross Church. Above all, he was a devoted Christian that dearly loved his family and the Lord.
Left to cherish his memory are a son, Charlie Crump (Nancy); daughter, Gloria Crump Hevel (Geoffrey); grandchildren, Eric Crump (Jennifer), Rebecca Crump, Gina Hevel Bowen, Beth Crump, Michael Crump (Brandi), Greta Hevel, and Kim Booz; granddaughter-in-law, Angelica Crump; sixteen great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Curtis was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Cleo Burns Crump; son, Clarence Crump; sisters, Claire Crump, Rosalie Mull, and Ruth Sams; brothers, John, Earl, and Ray Crump; grandson, Richard David Crump; and half-brother, Doug Crump.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Monday, August 14, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m., Monday, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Crump and John Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military honors provided by the North Carolina National Guard and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
