Robert "Bob" E. Newell, 96, Wabash, died at Miller's Merry Manor in Wabash August 10, 2017. He was born in LaFontaine to Arthur and Ella (Armstrong) Newell. Bob married Gladys M. Holmquist on December 19, 1942, and they shared nearly 67 years together until she passed away on December 7, 2009.

HE attended LaFontaine High School and then enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Following his military service, he worked in maintenance at General Motors until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the GM Sympathy Club, American Legion Van Buren Post #368 for 51 years, UAW Local 662, AARP, and Resurrection Lutheran Church. His favorite hobby was woodworking, and he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survived by his son, DeWayne Newell, Wabash; grandchildren, Kenneth (Kjari) Newell and Sarah (Andrew Hartsock) Newell; sister, Barbara Allen; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Sadie.

He was preceded in death by his parents & wife and siblings, Helen Newell, Margurite Hammer, Irene Weirich, Donald Newell, and Russell Newell.



Family and friends may call August 14, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
A funeral service will be held August 15, 2017, at the funeral home with entombment following at Grant Memorial Park.
