WEST POINT -- Mr. Hilliard Darden, 81, of West Point died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. at Goodsell United Methodist Church in Lanett with the Revs. Horace Blount III and Bertha Hodge officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery in Shawmut.

Mr. Darden is survived by five daughters, Mary Alice (Ralph) Davidson and Carrie Thomas, both of West Point, Cynthia (Sam) Madden, Tracy (Cecil) Murry and Jackie Darden, all of Lanett; one son, Michael (Doris) Darden of Lanett; his devoted friend and ex-wife, Mrs. Emma Kate Elie of Lanett; two sisters, Carrie Collins of Washington D.C., and Corene Wells of Lanett; two special nephews, John and William Darden of Syracuse, N.Y.; a devoted son-in-law, Freddie McCullough; 17 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Born Dec. 26, 1921 in Chambers County, Mr. Darden was a lifelong member of Goodsell United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He received numerous awards during that time. Mr. Darden was an avid Braves fan and a fan of Lanett and Valley football games.

The family may be contacted at the home of Mrs. Emma Kate Elie and Jackie Darden, 1237 N. 13th Ave., Lanett, and Mrs. Mary Alice Davidson, 1203 Eastwood Lane, West Point.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 7 until 8 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home in Valley.
