Leo was born at Wichita, the fifth of five children. He attended grade school and the first three years of high school in the Wichita Cathedral schools and finished his high school course at Conception Preparatory seminary, Conception, Missouri. He continued his studies at Conception through college and the first three years of theology and made his final year of theology at Kenrick Seminary in St Louis. His ordination to the priesthood took place march 22, 1958 in St Patrick church, Wichita, Kansas with the Most Rev. Mark K. Carroll as the ordaining prelate. During the Korean War, Father Prichard served with the 127th Fighter Bomber Jet Squadron of the Kansas National Guard, stationed at Alexandria Air Force Base in Louisiana. Father Prichard's first assignment after his ordination was an assistant at Our lady of Lourdes church in Pittsburg, Kansas. He went to Hutchinson, Kansas in August of 1961 as assistant in St Teresa parish and took over the administrative duties of the area high school in June 1962. The priest had been associated with education work in the diocese since that time. Besides his work, Father Prichard served a time as chaplain of St Elizabeth hospital in Hutchinson and at the time as assistant of Our Lady of Guadalupe parish, Hutchinson, and also took care of the mission, St Agnes, Castleton. Rev. Leo Anthony Prichard, helps design and was administrator of Holy Trinity high school since its opening in 1966 and administrator of the area high school in that city for four years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and Eagles Lodge.
