Funeral services will be held Monday, August 14, 2017 at a 10:00 a.m. Liturgy of the Word in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Clara Avant Cormier, age 93, who passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 peacefully at home in Lafayette.

Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Mark Ledoux, pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.
Musical selections will be provided by Julie Broussard, accompanied by Phyllis Simar on the organ. The songs will be Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art and The Old Rugged Cross.

Mrs. Cormier was a native of Duson and a resident of Lafayette for the past 57 years. She was a parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro. Mrs. Cormier enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and planting flowers, but most of all her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include four sons, Gene Cormier and his wife, Marilyn, of Deland, FL, Wayne Michael Cormier of Church Point, Kevin Cormier and his wife, Deloris, of Lafayette and Kendall L. Cormier and his fiancée, Angela F. Bezett, of Lafayette; one daughter, Glenda Cormier and her fiancé, Michael Maturin, of Lafayette; fifteen grandchildren, Renee Supinski and her husband, Edward, Steve Cormier, Shelia Cormier and her companion, Mike Aucoin, Todd Cormier, Sherry Midkiff, Sonya Breaux and her husband, Clyde, Shannon Broussard and his wife, Melissa, Scotty Broussard, Stacy Cormier and Marty Cormier and his wife, Chasity, Brett Cormier and his wife, April, Kendall L. Cormier, Jr. and his wife, Melissa, Sean Cormier, April Cormier and Tiffani Cormier; twenty six great grandchildren and one on the way; five great, great, grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, Hewitt Conner of Lake Charles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irby Cormier; her parents, Grady Avant and the former, Clothilde David; one son, Patrick Cormier; one brother, Grady Avant, Jr.; and three sisters, Bertha Abshire, Maude Duhon and Mary Bradley.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home by Geneva Breaux.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Sunday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Monday.

Pallbearers will be Noah Midkiff, Scotty Broussard, Kevin Cormier, Kendall L. Cormier, Kenneth Duhon, Gerald "Tee" Abshire, Jr. and Grady Conner. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Cormier and Wayne Michael Cormier.

Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Avenue, Carencro, Louisiana was in charge of arrangements.
