Adolphina Schultz Succumbs at 104
Service for 104-year-old Adolphina W. Schultz, who had lived in Spokane 70 years, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ball and Dodd-Thornhill and Langbehn's. Burial will follow at Greenwood.
Mrs. Schultz died yesterday at the Coeur d'Alene nursing home where she had lived since 1973.
Born January 14, 1877, in Paynesville, Minn., she was honored by her school in 1890 for being the "most outstanding student and writer."
By marrying a German William Frederick Schultz, in 1896, she gave up her U.S. Citizenship for 46 years. but she regained it in 1942 and voted in every election until last November.
A Lutheran, Mrs. Schultz came to Spokane in 1903 with her husband Mr. Schultz, an early-day blacksmith here, who died in 1939.
She was honored on her 104th birthday with a reception at the nursing home in January. Although she could not hear the messages, birthday congratulations letters were read from President Jimmy Carter, President elect, Ronald Regan, Govs. John Evans of Idaho and Albert Quie of Minnesota, and Sens. James McClure and Steve Symms.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Myrna Spiger, Spokane Valley; and two granddaughters, Mrs. John (June) Syverson of Greenacres and Mrs. Larry (Jacqueline) Kreyssler, Otis Orchards. Her three sons were Jessie, who died as an infant; Norbert Wilfred, who died in 1976, and Arlie T., who died in 1979.
