Loie Leavitt

LaVerkin, Gunlock

La Verkin, Utah -- Loie Prince Leavitt died of health complications at the age of 82 on August 4, 2017 in St. George, Utah, surrounded by her family.

Loie was born August 15, 1934 in Washington, Utah to Murdell Hartley and Leslie Hyrum Prince.

She married Paul Leavitt on March 6, 1954 in St. George, Utah and was later sealed in the LDS St. George Temple on March 7, 1961.

She grew up in Southern Utah and Nevada.

Loie described her childhood, "We didn't need a lot, and we were always happy.

There were things I wanted and didn't get, but really didn't need them to be happy."

Loie worked for Snow Canyon Middle School as a lunch lady for many years, and she made the best homemade rolls and breads.

She was skilled at embroidery and loved to read.

Admired for her marksmanship, Loie was an excellent hunting partner.

We loved to hear her stories and her great sense of humor.

She was a wonderful mother and the strongest woman we've ever known.

We feel very fortunate to have had this great lady in our lives, and she will be truly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and infant brother.

She is survived by her four daughters Lolene Hansen (Charlie), Mary Jane Esplin (Brett), Molly Bowers (Kevin), Minnie Hughes (Chuck); son Paul Bri Leavitt (Tonya); sisters Merlene Sonnenberg and Nola Croppi; brother Richard Prince; 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the hospital staff for their excellent care, as well as the LaVerkin and Gunlock neighbors and friends for their friendship and kindness to Loie throughout the years.

Viewing services will take place Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Hughes Mortuary, 1037 East 700 South, St. George, Utah.
