The founders and builders of the Oranges, Comprising a History of the Outlying District of Newark, Subsequently Known as Orange, by Henry Whittemore, pg 441; print, Newark, NJ · 1896 (Google Books): Francis Amaziah Atwood, son of Amaziah and Sally (Snow) Atwood, was born at Wellfleet, Mass., January 31, 1821. He went to Boston as a young man, carried on business for some years and died in Chelsea, Mass., September 11, 1851. He married Mary Snow, daughter of Samuel Snow, whose name was originally Salvatore Sebaté y Morel, a native of Villa Sec., Spain. He came to this country in childhood and was adopted by Capt. Ephraim Snow of Cohasset, Mass., whose name he took. He was a master of a ship and was lost at sea. The mother of Mary Snow was Betsy Platt. The children of Francis A. and Mary (Snow) Atwood were: [i.] Edward Stanley, b. Dec. 5, 1842; [ii.] Sarah Elizabeth, b. Aug. 6, 1845, died young; [iii.] Mary Frances, b. Jan. 5, 1848; [iv.] Horace Franklin, b. Feb. 5, 1850.
