A.M. "Bud" Bailey, 80, former owner, editor and publisher of the Hazen Star, died Tuesday, August 29, 1995, in Phoenix, Arizona.

He was born on December 14, 1914, in Mooreton, North Dakota, to Ernest and Mary Bailey. The family later moved to Barney, Bismarck, and Colorado Springs, Colorado. The family returned to Barney in 1931, where he farmed with his father until 1936.

He attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton and the State Teachers College in Pittsburg, Kansas. He married Hanna Jevne June 22, 1941, in Newburg. After working at the Dunseith Journal, he was employed by the Alamosa News of Colorado. In February 1941, he worked at the Hazen Star for six months before purchasing it with Ferd Froeschle in August 1941. He remained at The Star either as co-publisher and sole owner until selling it on February 1, 1969. He then was employed at the Minot Daily News until retiring in April 1980. After retirement, he and his wife split time between homes in Minot and Mesa.

While in the publishing business, he served one term as president of the North Dakota Newspaper Association and was active and held various offices organizations in Hazen. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Minot, and an associate member of Victory Lutheran Church, Mesa.

Survivors: wife; son, Ray, Fort Collins, Colorado; daughter, Lois Cozier, Hollywood, Florida; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services were held in the Victory Lutheran Church on August 31st in Mesa, Arizona.
