His niece Frances Wacaser Honomichl writes in 1997: "Bill taught school a few years in Illinois, left for Arizona because of asthma, and then was employed for several years in the offices of copper companies in Mexico where he learned Spanish. He later taught Spanish and music in the schools of Fresno, California, and retired in Fresno on a teacher's pension. He married Myrtle Witherspoon, widow of a WW I veteran; they had no children."
