Cass Abraham

Mr. Cass Abraham, 78, of Ubly and Sebring, Florida, died Saturday evening, July 8, 2000 at his residence after a long illness.

He was born April 2, 1922 in Parisville to the late John L. and Mary (Kucharczyk) Abraham, Sr.

He married Sylvia "Sally" Maikrzek on October 25, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Rapson. She preceded him in death August 1, 1998.

He was a graduate of Kipper School Siegel #6. He moved to Ubly in 1952 and barbered in Ubly for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He was a part-time barber in Sebring, FL for 12 years and fully retired in 1998. He has been a parishioner at St. John Catholic Church for 48 years. He served in the U.S. Army, 5th Bomb Squad, 9th Division, Airplane Crew Chief-Bomb Squad Staff Seargeant.

He wintered in Sebring, FL for 13 years. He was an avid bowler for many years, having his own team - Cass' Barber Shop. He also enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, traveling and playing cards with friends and family.

He was a former member of the Ubly Community Club and the Ubly Lions Club, former fireman for the Ubly Fire Department for 20 years, past Ubly Village Council member, past member of the Knights of Columbus (4th degree) of Bad Axe. He was a member of the Thumb Veterans Organization and a past commander. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, and a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Moose Club in Sebring, FL.

He is survived by one daughter of Ubly; two sons and daughter-in-law of Champion, MI and Snover; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Dorothy Elandt and her husband, Henry, of Bad Axe, and Agnes Essenmacher and her husband, Art of Harbor Beach; special friend, Norine Newbould of Sebring, FL.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Anna; and two brothers, Raymond and John Al. Abraham, Jr.; two half-brothers, Joseph and Frank Hoin, Sr.; and one half-sister, Magdellan Hoin.

Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. Rev. T.J. Fleming, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery with Military Honors by Thumb Veterans Organization #1 of Ubly.

Arrangements were handled by the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly.
