C. Robert Ecklund, 80, of 101 Summit Ave., Jamestown, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, in his home.
He was born in Jamestown on May 18, 1937, a son of the late Einar N. and Gunvor L. Gustafson Ecklund.
Bob was a 1955 graduate of Jamestown High School, where he was an excellent student and outstanding basketball player. He received honors his senior year as a Chautauqua County First Team All-Star in Chautauqua County and Western New York. Bob continued to play basketball as a point guard while attending Baldwin Wallace University.
He was a retiree of the Truck-Lite Co., where he had been employed as a production engineer.
Bob was an excellent golfer and through the years a member of South Hills, Conewango and Jackson Valley country clubs. He also refereed high school basketball for 10 years as a member of Board 39 IAABO.
Surviving are a son, Mathew (Edith) Ecklund, three grandchildren: Rachel, Mark and Derek Ecklund, and a great-granddaughter, Ava Schnars, all of Panama, N.Y.; as well as a daughter, Beth (Doug) Jackson, two grandsons: Nicholas and Nathan Jackson, and a great-granddaughter, Eva Jackson of Cincinnati, Ohio. Also surviving are a brother, Russell (Thelma) Ecklund of Jamestown and sister, Carol Bender of Lakewood; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Mark R. Ecklund, who died September 11, 1994.
A private family service will be held, with the Rev. Donald E. Ray officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home.
