Nancy was the daughter of Fountain & Sarah Norton, both natives of Virginia. She married James Long and the couple moved to Kentucky. They were the parents of Fountain, Jordan, William J., Tram (?), Peter, Lula, Frank and Martha E. Long.

Mr. Long passed away, in 1905. He had been a Union soldier during the Civil War, serving with the 3rd TN, MTD INF. After Mrs. Long was widowed, she applied for and was granted a Widow's Pension based upon her late husband's military service.

She married Peter Humphrey on June 6, 1908 in Garrard County, Kentucky. He was the son of Solomon & Frances Waldridge Humphrey and the widower of Almira Susan Hall Humphrey.

Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth (nee Norton) Long Humphrey passed away from the effects of dilatation of the heart and edema, both with a duration of two months.
