Capt Richard J Person died at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon at St Leo's Hospital in Greensboro, NC. He had been critically ill for about three weeks.
Captain Person served with the 2nd Tennessee Regiment of Memphis, TN in the Spanish-American War and had made his home in Columbia for many years after the close of the war.
He was well-known and well liked and leaves many friends who will be saddened to learn of his death. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and a graduate of West Point.
Interment in Memphis next to his father and mother.
His wife, Mrs Nena Oliveros Person, died 7 years ago; one son, R O Person of Columbia and one daughter, Mrs Nena Person Blackwell of New York City, survive.
Mrs Person designed the iodine state seal which has been widely used in the state.
