Claudia Elizabeth (Betty) Burgess, 87, widow of Ithama Burgess, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017, at Linley Park Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Born in the Shady Grove Community of Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Blanche Campbell Carson.

Mrs. Burgess was a homemaker and co-owner of Burgess Grocery. She was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Elizabeth King, Claudia Smith (John W. Smith), Betty Ann Poore (Mike Poore), and Nancy McMahan (Aubrey McMahan); and son, Gilbert Burgess, all of Belton; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, James King; two sisters, Cornelia Herring and Marian Norris; and a brother, Forrest Carson.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Mitch Brooks. Burial will follow in Union Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. The family is at the home of Elizabeth King.
