Mel was born on Sunday, December 23, 1923, in Gorman, Texas, to Albert Otto Stevens and Claire Davidson Stevens.
He lived a full life honoring God, his country and loving his family and friends. He was a decorated World War II veteran and an ex-POW. He lived out his life after the war serving the Fort Worth area as a Fort Worth police officer for 35 years. He was an active member of his VFW Post #8911.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Stevens.
SURVIVORS: He is survived by his daughter, Kati Turney and son-in-law, Joe, of Angleton; son, Bill Stevens of Fort Worth; three granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.
