Anton Petersen was born in the village of Olst, Denmark, the son of Rasmus Kristjan Pedersen and Anna Kristina Andersdatter. At the age of 20 he immigrated to the Unites States, arriving at Boston, Massachusetts in May, 1904 and applied for citizenship in Galveston, Texas in December that same year.
Anton owned a restaurant in Galveston for a number of years, and after moving to Houston in 1924 with his fourth wife Helen worked as a longshoreman at the docks of the Houston Ship Channel.

Anton married his second wife Frances Lampert on 10-1-1913 in Galveston. They divorced on 12-29-1920.
