Cecil Robert Brimhall, 87, affectionately known as “Bob”, passed away on July 24, 2017, following a short battle with cancer. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Bob was born on May 23, 1930, to Cecil Smith and Ivy (Hartley) Brimhall. He was oldest of 4 children.
Bob married his sweetheart, Laurie Helen Garlick, in the Salt Lake LDS temple on June 1, 1949. He was a doting and loving husband. They are the parents of four children, to whom Bob was a dear friend and loving father. They each enjoyed his lovable nature, his kindness, and generosity to others, his talent with fixing and painting cars, his love for being outdoors in the mountains, his love for family gatherings, and making people laugh with his “songs”.
In his lifetime, he worked many years as a Foreman for Geneva Steel, Union Pacific Railroad, and as Safety Director for the Utah State Department of Transportation.
He developed a love for auto-mechanics in his early years. His children were thankful to have his hard work turned into beautiful classic cars that they could drive when they turned 16. He beautifully restored and painted his Cadillacs bright red which were all decked out in chrome; they were his pride and joy and were truly breath-taking. He never lost his love for cars, and later had an interest in restoring old tractors that he proudly drove in parades.
Bob enjoyed working in his garage and keeping his yard (and garage) looking immaculate. Some of his favorite pastimes were playing the organ and making up silly little songs, watching WWC wrestling with his family nearby, camping at his favorite campgrounds, and working side-by-side with his son, Robert, restoring cars. He had a genuine love for, and interest in the people around him, and he made many friends throughout his life.
In his later years, after his wife Laurie Helen had passed on in 1992 he spent a lot of time in the company of friends where he met and married Margaret “Nell” Halliday. They have enjoyed a special relationship, one full of visiting their favorite camping spots, their favorite restaurants, and snowbirding to Yuma, Arizona during the long winter months in Utah. They met many friends in Yuma whom they love. There, he started the 55th Street Christmas Parade where each house along that street was assigned to decorate from a line in the poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’- He was Mr. Santa Clause.
Bob is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children, Sherrie (Lynn) Jorgensen; Robert (Delene); Gary G; Tamie Anne; seven grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his step-children; Carolyn (John) Lewis; Maggie; and Buddy/Wayne (Glenna). He has many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren whom he loved. He is also survived by his siblings: Verl (Yuma, AZ), Carolyn Walker (Tooele, UT)
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Smith and Ivy Brimhall; his wife, Laurie Helen of 43 years; his brother, Ivan; and his grandson, Aaron Joshua Brimhall.
A service will be held at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 5:00 pm.
