Merita Benton Hammond, 92, passed away July 26, 2017 in a local retirement facility.
Mrs. Hammond was born in Florence County, the daughter of the late Cary Eli and Ruth White Benton. She attended Winthrop College and graduated from Newberry College with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in the Public School System in Florence and Lamar.
She was married to the late Charles William Hammond.
She is preceded in death by a son, Cary Eli Hammond and a daughter, Belinda Ann Hammond.
