Daughter of James Edward Allgood, Sr., M.D. and Ruth Thompson Allgood; widow of Albert L. Johnson, Jr.

A 1934 graduate of Winthrop College in Intermediate Education, she played the viola in the Winthrop Symphony Orchestra and later in the Anderson Symphony. She did post graduate work at the College of William and Mary. Mrs. Johnson taught in the public schools of Anderson County and Liberty and gave private piano lessons. She lived most of her life in Liberty.

She is survived by two sons, Albert L. Johnson, III and James Edward Johnson, Sr. (Adelaide) of Greenville; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Kiser Johnson of Greenville; six grandchildren, James Edward Johnson, Jr (Carrie), Jennie Johnson Carrington (Lindsay), Michael Allgood Johnson, Jr., Caroline Lillie Johnson, Tucker Albert Johnson, and John Loftin (Jack) Johnson; and five great-grandchildren, Katherine Adelaide Johnson, Josephine Kendrick Johnson, James Edward Johnson, III, Samuel Capers Carrington, and Frances Adelaide Carrington.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her youngest son, Michael Allgood Johnson, Sr. (1957-2015); her brother, James Edward Allgood, Jr., M.D., and sisters, Catharine Allgood Young and Isabel Ruth Hunt.

Her family especially extends their deep and heartfelt appreciation to Ann Merritt for her loving care and friendship over the past ten years.

Funeral services: Friday, July 28, 2017 at Liberty United Methodist Church, conducted by the Reverend Michael Goldston.

Burial: Westview Cemetery in Liberty.

Pallbearers: the Honorable Kinard Johnson, Jr., James E. Johnson, Jr., Michael A. Johnson, Jr., Tucker A. Johnson, John L. (Jack) Johnson, and Jennings Farr.
