He was born July 1, 1927, in Pekin, the son of William Earl and Mable (King) Mills. He married Betty Lou Johnstone on Oct. 4, 1952, in Geneva.
Mike proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the U.S.S. Wyoming Battleship and also served during the Korean War.
He served as an alderman on the Earlville City Council for several years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Masons, where he earned the 32nd degree.
He is survived by one daughter, Vicky (Danny) Shamblin, of Marseilles; one son, Bruce (Colleen) VonOhlen, of Lyons, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Micah, Arron, Jerome, Tommy, Brittany, Junior, Tayna, Crystal, Misty and Kathy; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma (Tommy) Littrell, of Oakley, Ill., and Ladena Qualls, of Decatur; one brother, Kenneth (Ann) Norman, of Monticello, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Lou; a daughter, Dianna L. Barnes; two sons, Robert Ronald VonOhlen Jr. and Michael R. Mills; one sister, Barbara; and two brothers, Bud and Gene.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at Precinct Cemetery, rural Earlville, with Chaplain Christopher E. Ausler officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to Hanley-Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Earlville.
