Joe proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He owned and operated his own Drywalling company retiring in 1982. Joe married Fanny Abbott. He was a member of both the VFW in Nashville and the Eagles in Charlotte.
He is survived by his wife, Fanny Abbott of Bellevue, sons, Ed Abbott of Bellevue, Joseph J. Abbott Jr. of Bellevue; granddaughter, Brooke Bivens of Vermontville; and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A graveside service took place on Wednesday July 26, 2017 at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.
