James P. Root dies in hospital
Retired farmer was 69 years old.
HECLA – James P. Root, 69, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rome Hospital where he had been confined five weeks.
He was born in Stanwix, June 8, 1878 and spent his early life in Lorena. On Jan 31, 1906 in First Methodist Church, Rome, he married Mae Shaw of Little Falls.
He was a farmer in Verona for a number of years and moved to Hecla in 1910 where he lived until last year when he went to the home of his sister, Mrs. Herbert Blood to live.
He had been active in political matter in the Town of Westmoreland where he served three terms as road commissioner.
He leaves his widow, who lives in Oneida Castle; a sister, Mrs. Herbert Blood, Lorena; a niece, Miss Frances Blood and a nephew, Donald Blood, Lorena; three other nephews, Gerald Blood, Remsen; Lyle Blood, Adams and Lloyd Blood, Rome. A daughter, Helen Died Feb 24, 1941.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Alger Funeral Home, Vernon, with the Rev. Leonard H. Bass officiating. Friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Thursday and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be made in Maple Grove Cemetery.
