Joshua Adam “Josh” Absten, 26, of Grandview Ridge, Red House, passed away Wednesday July 19, 2017. He was a 2009 graduate of Buffalo High School, and an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was actively serving his country in the United States Army, and was currently stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Born June 20, 1991, he was the son of Timothy A. Absten and Cheri Kay Freeman Absten. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Edward D. Absten, and his maternal grandparents, Kenneth & Charlene Herrell.

In addition to his parents, Josh is survived by his sister, Meagan Absten (Joshua Lewis) of Red House; paternal grandmother, Katherine Slate Absten of Red House; uncles, Edward Lee (Teresa) Absten, and Doug (Jill) Freeman; aunt, Darry Merine (Lee) Casto; special niece, Adelyn Lewis; as well as a host of cousins, extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to
Recovery Point, 2425 9th Ave, Huntington WV 25703. The family would like to encourage anyone battling addiction to seek help.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Raynes Funeral Home (Eleanor Chapel) with Pastor Rick Legg officiating. Burial with military graveside honors will follow in Shiloah Church Cemetery, Red House. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Eleanor Chapel.
