Harry Esmond Hengstler
June 23, 1925 - July 19, 2017
Harry Esmond Hengstler 92 of Richmond passed away Wednesday July 19, 2017 at Arbor Trace. He was born June 23, 1925 in Richmond and resided here all his life. He was a Navy Veteran of World War Two serving three years on the U.S.S. O’Bannon, a destroyer in the Pacific Theater. This vessel received the Presidential Unit Citation and 17 battle stars for its service; more than any destroyer in the war.

He retired from the Richmond Fire Department after working 22 ½ years where he was Chief Electrician, and ten of those years as Battalion Chief. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Donna, three children Nancy (Billy) Watson of Lebanon, Ohio, Larry (Susie) Hengstler of Richmond and Tammy (Rick) Wright of Richmond, twenty-eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, his sisters Allien McDaniel, Merlien Farmer, Patricia Desoni of Richmond, one brother Joe (Sheryl) Hengtsler of Richmond, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters April and Waneta.



Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday July 24, 2017 at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Chaplains Billy Watson and Larry Groff officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in Lutherania Cemetery.
