Luther Taylor, age 81, of Newport, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017.

He was a veteran having served in the United States Army.

He was a member of the Newport Masonic Lodge #234, where he was secretary for many, many years, Scottish Rite Mason, also a Shriner, belonged to the Eastern Star and the Gideon’s. He was an Analytical Chemist and was a Biology and Science Teacher at Cocke County High School.

was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Lena Taylor; son, Gabriel Taylor; and sister, Josephine Caldwell.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Taylor, of Newport; daughters, Sabra Taylor Hamad of Raleigh, NC; Shawna Parks of Newport; step-daughter, Scottie Lee (Tom) Rader of Clemmons, NC; brother, Fred (Irene) Taylor of Dandridge; grandchildren, Omar Hamad, Noelle (Jordan) Douglas, Ariel Parks; step-grandchild, Laura Leigh (Mike) Garlow; great-grandson, Dillan Parks; step-great-grandson, Grant Marshall Garlow; also several other family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm – 6:30 pm Sunday, July 23, 2017 with a Masonic Service at 6:30 pm in Manes Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will follow the Masonic service at 7:00 pm with Rev. Kelly Reed and Rev. Eddie Young officiating. Burial will be held 10:00 am Monday, July 24, 2017 in Union Cemetery.
