Helen (Hooper) Whitley was born on August 20, 1931 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, and she was the daughter of Joseph Harrison "Harry" Hooper (1900–1975) and his wife Ellie Cleo (Neighbors) Hooper (1901–1966).

She graduated from Cumberland High School and Falls Business College and was employed by the federal government for 32 years before retiring in 1994.

Helen was married about 1961 to Roger Whitley, and she had been a member of Third Baptist Church since she was 11 years old and taught Sunday school there for most of her life, including the Golden Circle class.

Still a resident of Nashville, she was 85 years old when she passed away on July 18, 2017.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sylvia Beatrice (Hooper) Eakes, nephew William Richard Smith and by her aunt Ruth Warren, who she took care of for 20 years. Survivors included her husband, a married daughter, married son, four grandsons, two sisters and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held at the chapel of Mount Olivet Funeral Home, and burial was Mount Olivet Cemetery.
