YORK Florence E. Shull Glatfelter, 98, a York County native, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at 7:56 p.m. at Misericordia Convalescent Home. Mrs. Glatfelter was born on August 4, 1908, to Latimer Strickler and Lillian Spangler. She was the loving wife of the late Lurty Shull for nearly 50 years and the late Ervin Glatfelter for over 20 years. She is survived by her daughters, Alma Swartz of Manchester, and Deborah Warner and her husband, Michael Warner of Cary, N.C. She is also survived by a stepson, Donald Glatfelter and his wife, Nancy of York. In addition to her husbands, Florence was preceded in death by her sons, Lurty "Jack" Shull and Billy Shull; and by her daughter, Darlene Fahs. Florence was living at her home in York until her passing and enjoyed visits from her daughters and grandchildren. She is survived by 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. They called her Mammaw. She lost two granddaughters, Pamela Shull and Jackie Fahs Breighner; and a greatgranddaughter, Kelly Shull. Florence loved to shop and she passed that love to her daughters. As a girl she rode the trolley from Pleasureville to the markets in York. She continued the tradition of shopping with her daughter at the market every Friday until this winter. Always thinking about family, she was planning a family reunion just days before her death. She was the ultimate hostess, asking anyone who visited her in the hospital if she could get them something to eat. Florence and Lurty married in 1924 and moved to North York to raise their children. Lurty was from Mt. Solon, Va. They visited his family many times and the families stay in touch to this day. She kept close friends from work. She worked in the D&D Sewing Factory in North York until she retired. After Lurty died, a friend from D&D introduced her to her cousin, Ervin. She and Ervin were married in 1976. They lived on Lewisberry Road until he died in 1998. Florence's family invites you to celebrate her long and happy life by attending her viewing and service. Viewings will be on Sunday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Monday one hour prior to the service at Workinger-Semmel F.H. and Crematorium, Inc., 849 E. Market St., York. Funeral service will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest with Lurty in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
