On July 9, 2017, John Jason Atkinson, 91, passed away peacefully at the Lutheran Collier Hospice Center. John and Verna moved to Broomfield in 1958 where they were well known for their community service. John was a member and past president of the Rotary Club and a member of Jaycees. He was honored in 2007 with the Heart of Broomfield Community Service Award. He was very proud of his Naval Service where he served as a medic during WWII and was a cofounder and past president of the Broomfield Veteran's Memorial Museum.
He received his law degree from DU and was the first justice of the peace for the city of Broomfield in the early 1960s where he presided over court twice a week in his spare room at his home. John was well known for his sense of humor and his ability to walk into a room and immediately be friends with every person there.
He is preceded in death by his wife Verna Louise Hidy. He is survived by 3 children, Jeff Atkinson, Tim (Linda) Atkinson, Katie Atkinson, 3 grandchildren, Daniel (Jessi Nusbaum) Atkinson, Ian (Jennifer Zee) Atkinson and Harrison (Briana) Kendrick and one great-grand child, Bodhi.
