He was the son of Dempsey and Jane Andrews Battle of NC. Brother of Amelia(1791-1817), Andrews(1793-1842), and John(d. enroute NC to GA age 22) Battle.
Married (1) Elizabeth Langley Smith Battle (1797-1815), his cousin, the daughter of Jacob and Penelope Edwards Battle. One child Harriet Elizabeth Cullen Battle (1815-1817).
Married (2) Jane Andrews Lamon on July 8, 1817. Father of nine children: Margaret, Mary Jane (Shorter), Archibald John, Cullen Andrews, Duncan Clinch, Jacob Demsey, William Rabun, Junius Kincaid, and Richard Fuller Battle.
