He was born in Columbus, Ohio, on January 31, 1938, the son of the late William and Nellie (Sparrow) Graves.
David proudly served his country and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of AFLCIO Building Trades, Painters Union #841, and a member of the Masonic Temple. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and he cherished being surrounded by his family and planning holiday gatherings.
David retired from the U.S. Department of Labor. He also worked as a business agent, painter, and financial adviser.
He was a family man and is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Louise (Bell) Graves; sons and daughters-in-law, David (Tracy) Graves, Matt (Edie) Graves; daughter, Susan Clelland; daughter and son-in-law, Maureen (Ed) Nagy; sister, Barbara Wilhite; and was a devoted father to four children, grandfather to twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his brother, William Stanley Graves and sister, Martha Miller.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Heitger Funeral Home - Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Ave. N.W., Massillon, Ohio 44646 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Rev. David Horner officiating.
Burial to follow the service at Sunset Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wounded Warriors Project or American Diabetes Association.
