Dixie Ruth Hopson Massingill was born in Gatesville, Texas on February 25, 1935 to William Penn Hopson and Velma Ruth Hopson. Dixie married the love of her life, Mahlon Lee "Bud" Massingill on June 9, 1951 in Gatesville, Texas. Dixie and Bud spent many years traveling the state of Texas as he followed his career in iron working. They eventually settled in Everman, Texas where they reared their two sons, Mahlon II and Gary Dean. It was during this time that Dixie began to pursue her career as a beautician.

Eventually, they became the proud grandparents of Mahlon Lee "Trey" Massingill and Laurel Massingill-Bartlett. Five grandchildren were eventually added to the family.

Dixie is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Bud Massingill as well as her two brothers, Joe Hopson and Jimmy Hopson; sons, Mahlon and wife, Alicia of Crowley, Texas and Gary of Plains, Montana; grandson Trey and wife, Shawn of Alvarado, Texas; granddaughter Laurel and husband, Scott of Godley, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Dillon Massingill, Tanner Massingill, Maycie Massingill, Kolby Bartlett, and Maddox Bartlett; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Dixie passed away July 13, 2017. Graveside service will be held Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11 AM, Murphree Cemetery.
