J.W. Bridges Feb. 22, 1917 – Feb. 27, 2007 Basham Funeral Care Visitation for J.W. Bridges will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles Street) on Sunday, March 4, 2007 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Monday afternoon, March 5, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. J.W. was born in Louisiana on February 22, 1917. He married Lillie Marie Oakes on February 17, 1940. He lost his beloved wife four years ago after 62 years of marriage and now he has gone to join her. J.W. graduated from high school in Louisiana, but he put great store in education and continued to take college classes through age 76. He served in the Army Air Corps in WWII as a belly gunner in a B-17 with over 24 missions over Germany. He loved the Lord and was a deacon for many years. He was proud to be a Mason and was a member of the Libertas Lodge in Bakersfield and the Grand Lodge in Farmerville, Louisiana. He worked for Gulf Oil and Chevron for 45 years. He and his wife Marie also had their own business for over 20 years, South Chester T.V. He is survived by his four sisters, Nina Weber, Ina Delgado, Myrtie Wheat and Melvie Brown; sons, Richard Bridges and Brian Bridges; daughter, Patricia Kruse; son-in-law, Jacob Kruse; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
