William A. Baldwin was the son of Ira and Susan (Cantonwine) Baldwin, the grandson of Michael and Catherine (Myers/Myres) Cantonwine, and the great-grandson of Charles and Mary Cantonwine.

Charles, the patriarch of the Cantonwine family, immigrated to America from Prussia in 1806, arriving in Philadelphia, Penn., aboard the ship Orlando. The ship's passenger list shows Chr. Kuntentwine, single man. Eight or so years later, Charles married Mary (surname unknown) in about 1814 in Bedford county, Pennsylvania.

THE DEPARTED
William Baldwin was born in Vinton, Iowa January 11, 1868 and passed away from this life at the Winfield Hospital, October 3, 1930, at the age of 62, years, 9 months and 22 days. He was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Baldwin, pioneer residents of the Vining community. His father preceded him in death in 1915 and the mother passed away about two months ago. He was an invalid for a number of years and was devotedly cared for by his mother, sisters and brother. He was of good kind disposition and loved those who cared for him very much. He leaves to mourn his departure one brother, D. D. Baldwin, Edmond, Okla., six sisters, Mrs. Ida Tomlinson, Chula Vista, Calif., Mrs. Paul Randall, Mrs. Minnie Fullerton and Mrs. Myrtle Brockleman, all of Pasadena, Calif., Mrs. E. W. Haynes of Clifton and Mrs. W. R. Haynes of Vining. Short funeral services were conducted by Mrs. Fred E. Meaders, wife of the Christian minister of Vining, who was ill and unable to officiate. The service was held at the Turner funeral parlor. A quartette consisting of Mrs. J. W. Veatch, Miss Jessie Timmon, W. C. Timmons and W. G. McInturff sang "It is Well With My Soul" and "Happy Day", the latter being the favorite song of the deceased. Miss Laura McInturff accompanied at the piano. The remains were laid to rest near his father and mother in the Vining cemetery.
