Amy Carol Markum, age 58, passed gently on Oct. 14, 2011, from complications of a brain tumor.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, in O'Hair's Funeral Chapel.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Klamath Humane Society.
Amy was born in Lansing, Mich., and was proud to be known as a Michigander.
She is survived by Jim, her loving husband of 36 years. She and Jim met at the University of Tennessee and, after their marriage, began a lifelong adventure that revolved around Jim's career as an Air Force and Oregon Air National Guard pilot. Military assignments took them to far shores in England and Germany. Amy delighted in learning the foreign customs. She also enjoyed all types of music and was an ardent Beatles fan. Gardening and needlework were her other favorite pastimes.
The Markums settled in Klamath Falls in 1984 when Jim joined the guard unit at Kingsley Field. Many people knew Amy because of her nursing vocation. She graduated from Oregon Institute of Technology's School of Nursing with honors in 1989 and, over the ensuing years, was employed as a registered nurse at the Butte Valley Health Center, Klamath Medical Clinic, Klamath County Department of Public Health, and Sky Lakes Medical Center at the time of her death. Amy always cared compassionately for her patients and tried to uphold the professional standards of nursing to the highest degree. She enjoyed working with all of her colleagues in the medical field.
Additionally, Amy is survived by two children and their spouses Emily and Christopher Brandt and Staff Sgt. Eric and Lindsay Markum. She was a proud and devoted grandmother and Nana to Cole, Jace, and Cade Brandt, Sienna Markum, and Naomi Millis, all of Klamath Falls; father Roy Castetter and sister-in-law Patricia Castetter of Muskegon, Mich.; parents-in-law Frank and Margaret Markum of Cookeville, Tenn.; special childhood friend Susan McCance of Vero Beach, Fla.; and beloved canine companions Pippin and Merry.
Amy was preceded in death by her only brother Evan Castetter and mother Audrey Castetter.
