Clarence P. Hankes, 85, of North Aurora, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Delnor Community Hospital. He was born October 17, 1921 in Aurora.

Mr. Hankes was a member of St. Rita of Cascia Church for over 65 years where he served as a trustee and as the chairman of the finance committee. Mr. Han-kes is a graduate of Marmion Military Academy and Aurora University. He was a member of the Marmion Men's Club and a past treasurer. He was a member of the Lucky Fifty Club, the Moose Club and he enjoyed traveling.

Mr. Hankes was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He served in the 745th Tank Battalion and landed on Normandy. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a life member the VFW post 468, The 745th Tank Battalion Association and the American Legion post 84.

Mr. Hankes was the Owner of C.P. Hankes Accounting and Tax Service in Aurora, and was enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. He was past president of the Independent Accountants Association of Illinois, and past State Director National Society of Public Accountants. He was a charter member and treasurer of the Fox Valley Estate Planning Council and he was a life member and past treasurer of the Aurora Historical Society. He served as the auditor at Sportsman's Park and Aurora Downs.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn (Osman) Hankes; three children, Bruce (Becky) Hankes, Gary (Carla) Hankes, Helen (Stephen) Pierce; nine grandchildren, Jill (Terry) Smith, Brian Hankes, Amanda Hankes, Scott Hankes, Philip Hankes, Anna Pierce, Molly Hankes, Alex Hankes, Alice Pierce; a nephew and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Helen (Modaff) Hankes; a brother, Richard Hankes; and a cousin, Peter "Bud" Reckinger.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 21, 2006 at 9:30 AM from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY to St. Rita of Cascia Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 20, 2006 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 N. Lake Street, Aurora, IL. 60506. Information at (630) 631-5500 or www.daleidenmortuary.com.
