Preston Ernest Gibson Jr., 79, died Friday, February 23, 2007 at Duke University Hospital. Preston was the loving husband of Frances Terrell Gibson. Preston was born in Hendersonville, NC to the late Preston Ernest Gibson Sr. and Jessie Finlayson Gibson. His family moved to Atlanta, GA when he was 5 years old. Upon completion of public school he joined the United States Maritime Service near the end of WWII and attained the rank of Ensign serving as a radio officer aboard ship. After the war he attended Emory University where he received a B.A. in Law. In 1952 he married Mary Frances Terrell. They were the proud parents of three sons, Preston, Frank and Joseph. Preston was an insurance executive for his entire 33 year career. He was employed by American Insurance Co. which later became the Fireman's Fund American Insurance Co. During the course of his business career he moved his family from Atlanta GA to Richmond VA then to Charlotte, NC. Two months ago they moved to the Croasdaile Village Retirement Community in Durham, NC to be near family. In retirement he and his wife moved to N. Fort Myers, FL where they lived for 20 years. He was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where he loved attending the men´s prayer breakfast every week for many years. He was also a member of the Elks Club, Blue Goose Insurance Organization and a Life member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Preston is survived by his wife Frances (Terrell), sons Preston E(Patty)Gibson, III, their children Lauren, Nicholas, Molly and Anna of Denver, CO.; Frank Terrell(Brenda)Gibson, their children Emily and Nina of Durham, NC; Joseph P.(Jimi)Gibson, their children Amanda Gibson and Laura Marsh of Raleigh, NC; a brother J. William(Mary)Gibson of Atlanta, GA. Funeral services will be conducted at Yates Baptist Church. The Gibson family is under the care of Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home.
