Born Hubert Theron on June 29, 1929 in Teaneck, NJ to parents Hubert & Greta Brown Cornish. He married Lola Geeslin in 1953 and had three children. He served in the Army and earned a Master's Degree in Engineering from Purdue University. He worked for NCR, GE and Intel.
Ted had many interests, among them genealogy, metal detecting, stained glass, and furniture making. He helped many people along the way. In 2003 he purchased a home and donated it to be a day shelter for what is now Family Promise. He worked diligently with NAMI of Washington County to establish what is now known as the Cornish Family NAMI Wellness Community Center. Ted helped many people in need. He had many friends in TOPS and the Hillsboro Senior Center. He was actively involved at Hillsboro United Methodist Church, especially the gentry and trustees.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 25 years Linda Sowa Young Cornish, children David Cornish of Georgia, Dr. Timothy Cornish of Maryland and Cathleeen McIlroy of Florida and six grandchildren as well as three step daughters Laura Engelmann, Dr. Amy Bogiel and Kimberly Brummund and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Joanie. He was loved and will be remembered by many.
A memorial service will be held July 8 at 11:00am at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church with a reception immediately following. Internment will take place at Willamette View National Cemetery on July 10th at 9am. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted for projects of Hillsboro United Methodist Church, Family Promise and NAMI of Washington County.
